I work on the discovery and characterisation of white dwarf binaries — the compact, short-period systems that are the leading candidates for Type Ia supernova progenitors and the most common gravitational-wave sources in the Milky Way. Most of my time goes into large, noisy spectroscopic and photometric surveys: SDSS-V today, Roman/LSST next.

Broadly, I am interested in binary star evolution and the mass-transfer phases that shape it, especially the common envelope. Outside physics I sketch, play tennis and chess, and occasionally take a random walk through whatever data has caught my attention and the latest developments in the tech world.

Double white dwarf binaries in SDSS-V DR19: a catalog of DA white dwarf binaries and constraints on the binary population

The Astrophysical Journal, 1002, 207 · 2026

A catalog of 63 high-confidence double white dwarf binary candidates from SDSS-V DR19, used to constrain the white dwarf binary fraction and the distribution of orbital separations.

Left: the observed distribution of the radial-velocity variability statistic η, with the best-fit population model. Right: the resulting constraints on the binary fraction and the separation power-law index α. Figures from the paper.
